2008 Olympics Online

By Tommy Leung on 08/08/2008 in Life

I always marvel at what the free market can achieve and all our technological advances that have become a part of our lives is wholly due to that. NBC will be bringing the Olympics to all of us with videos of all the events at NBCOlympics.com. YouTube will have their own share of videos as well.

Go USA! :)

China Protestors

By Tommy Leung on 08/07/2008 in Politics

Made In China

I have not been supportive of the protests against China in way of boycotting the Olympic Games or because of the Tibet issue. That cartoon above makes a great point as well as this piece from LewRockwell.com. I’m not saying China is doing the right things but, those living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. I recommend you read the article I linked to. :)

Remember Xanga?

By Tommy Leung on 08/07/2008 in Life

A few years ago, Xanga was a really popular social Internet phenomenon. All my friends had one and were writing about their lives and what not. It was basically a blog network aimed at a younger market. I had stopped writing on Xanga since September of 2006 where I linked to a YouTube video of Keith Olbermann. I’m assuming I got a Facebook account sometime around there and forgot all about Xanga. I remembered it today and decided to take a look back at the things I wrote about–I can certainly tell that I was younger and dumber.

I’m not going to put a link to my old Xanga page but, you don’t need to be all that creative to figure it out. I read a few of my old posts and immediately noticed how I was just writing about my life and providing commentary on a few things here and there. While I have tried to write about real meaningful topics here, not many people really care to read it. The breadth of topics that I cover here is huge and that is just a bad marketing strategy.

Looking back at my old Xanga blog gave me an idea to write about my life again on this blog and then write my in depth political analysis and other topics in separate blogs. I had considered branching my political writings to a different blog a while ago since I was writing so much about that topic. There are a lot of things that I want to write about but then I don’t because it feels so disorganized here. I’ve already started to write about more personal things on this blog–that mixed with all the other topics is not helping to retain readers.

So, I’ve got a couple of blog names and ideas in mind–one of them will be political. From here on out, this blog will likely be updated a lot more, be a lot more casual, and a blog about the life of SuperTommy–not that I have tons of adoring fans but, I’m told that I’m fun to be around. :)

Paris for Prez

By Tommy Leung on 08/06/2008 in Politics

In response to McCain’s recent TV commercial comparing Obama to celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, Paris had this to say:

I found that pretty funny. I would love to see Paris debate McCain and Obama.

AS3 KeyboardEvent

By Tommy Leung on 08/02/2008 in Games

I’ve been working with ActionScript 3 a little bit more as of late and one rather confusing problem that seems to come up often is one with KeyboardEvent–it doesn’t seem to always work. The solution that I’ve come up with is to always add the KeyboardEvent listener to the stage of the root.

So, you will want to use addEventListener in the main class:

stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, KeyDown);
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, KeyUp);

And that’s it! This way has worked well for me so far. I actually use a KeyManager class to initialize the events and the stage is passed to that class.
